FAQ’s

Can I use the phone?

Phone calls can be made at the resort. International calls are placed through an operator who calls back with the exact cost of the call. This is then added to your bar tab. Calls relating to your travel arrangements to and from the island are complimentary.

Is the bar included in room rates?

Tea, coffee and Milo are available during the day from the coffee station in the Main Bure and is provided complimentary. The Manta Bar in the Main Bure is a fully stocked bar with a selection of local and imported beers, wines and spirits, soft drinks and juices for purchase.

Guests run a tab at the bar which is settled when checking out.

Do you accept Credit Cards?

MasterCard and VISA  are welcomed.

Prices quoted on this website are discounted cash prices.

As there are no banks on the island, we are able to offer this concession to those who want to settle their bill in cash.

Our standard prices are 5% higher than the ones quoted and this should be borne in mind by those wishing to settle by credit card.

Most foreign currency and travelers cheques are accepted but, again due to lack of banking facilities, exchange rates quoted are not as favorable as with a high street bank.

How does the Solar Power work?

Our focus at Matava is eco-tourism. We promote the natural environment, both marine and terrestrial and have adopted programmes to avoid damaging our environment.

These include conservation awareness, and waste management (recycling) programmes at the resort and with local villages. There are no power generators at Matava – our lighting is primarily solar, with additional kerosene lanterns if required.

All lighting in the Oceanview accommodation and the main bure is solar powered. The resort office also derives all its power from solar energy.

The resort does not operate any main generators, only a small emergency back-up generator for the office should the need arise.

Is there a Laundry service?

All our washing is done by hand. We’ll normally change our guest’s sheets and towels every third day.

Hand wash laundry facilities are available if required. Washing powder may be purchased in the main bure.

Are mosquitoes a problem?

Mosquitoes are not a major problem due to the constant sea trade winds blowing in from the South Pacific ocean.

Fiji is free from malaria and other major tropical diseases that are endemic to most tropical countries.

All bures have  fully screened windows. and the resort provides mosquito nets and mosquito coils for all beds in all bures.

Mosquito repellant may be purchased from the main bure.

What medical facilities are available?

Comprehensive first aid facilities are available at the resort and all our dive boats are equipped with emergency oxygen.

Matava is 10 minutes away from a local well equipped nursing station and 45 minutes from the hospital in Vunisea.

In the unlikely event of a dive emergency, Fiji has a recompression facility in Suva.

If necessary, Medivac is available.

Is there Internet and Wifi available?

We are pleased to offer our guests internet connectivity with our Main Bure Complex. The best areas for reception are at the far right of The Manta Bar and in the charging station area.

Our internet services is provided via satellite system, which has a maximum upload/download speed of 56kbps.

Our guests may access the internet on their laptop or devices by purchasing a token from the bar.

The WiFi connectivity is available from 9am to 5pm (during solar power activation times) , so be aware of the shut down time when activating your tokens.
